Staying Hope Filled in Unsettling Seasons
Life will be filled with unsettling and uncertain seasons. In these seasons, the enemy loves to pick at your hope. The Apostle Peter describes the devil’s hope-sucking strategy: “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 NIV. A lion’s roar can be heard up to five miles away. Lions love to surround a pack of prey and roar until one skittish and frightened member leaves the pack running in fear. Once driven by fear and alone, the fleeing animal is an easy target for the lions. Here are some thoughts to keep our lives hope-filled when life roars and tries to fill us with fear.
- Lean on your knowing more than your feelings. Feelings are real, but they cannot always be trusted. In challenging seasons, we must lean on God’s word and his trustworthy track record of caring for his people.
- Learn scriptures that calm your greatest fears. We all have areas we struggle in. Find God’s promises for the areas where you struggle to have faith.
- Live like Jesus. No matter what is happening in our lives, our assignment as followers of Jesus doesn’t change. We are commanded to live like Him and show Jesus to those we encounter.
- Leave it with Jesus. Remember, the only person you can control is yourself. Focus on honoring God with your life and leave everyone and everything else in His hands.
